You’re just along for the ride.

Respect for others, honesty, self control, humility, compassion – if you are exercising these values, then how can you be wrong? If your merit is based on your own weight and not someone else’s – how can you be wrong? If you are not seeking to gain at another’s expense – I’ll ask again, how can you be wrong? If all these things can remain intact, even when you are speaking your mind – you can’t be wrong. Isn’t that what blogging is all about? Why have the need to explain yourself, defend yourself or come up with reasons for doing what you love, like and care about. If you aren’t going to be honest in the blogging arena, why bother? If people need a spoonful of sugar to swallow what your blog has to say, isn’t that their problem? When you are comfortable in your own skin (and when you have a blog you must certainly be) the fear of judgment from others is nonexistent. You like me or you don’t…what you see is what you get…no apologies necessary (as long as the things mentioned in the first sentence are maintained).

It took me a while before I started blogging for all the reasons listed above. I had to get real with myself and make sure that I could represent ME and not a what-I-want-y'all-to-think about me person. I have always feared disappointing people, troubled by my lack of self-esteem; I valued others opinions of me; I am a recovering approval seeker. But once you realize you are willing to stand in the light even when it does not shine too kindly; you are ready to blog (at least you know that the light is shining true). You must take a chance that someone is going to pick your words apart, twist them, turn them and interpret them however they want to; when it comes down to it you are writing with personal purpose; others are invited to read but approval is not necessary. After all, your readers are just along for the ride.
