Beneath His Badge
Though it’s true that any of us could lose our lives at any moment, not everyone who sends her husband out the door wonders if today’s goodbye kiss and “be careful out there” will be the last exchange they’ll ever share.

As a police wife there are certain facets of the job I know will never change – shift work, lengthy odd hours, and of course, the constant unpredictability. It is always my prayer that the unpredictability is never accompanied by serious consequences – and I don’t mean being late for dinner.

In the wee hours of this chilly October morning, a 24 year old man pulled up to a gas station, opened fire and in a flash, took an innocent officer’s life. This officer was described in our local newspaper as, “a police officer’s police officer”. What kind of human being guns down an innocent police officer? I can think of a few inappropriate words that could answer that question, but I’ll refrain.

The City of Shreveport has lost a protector, the department a brother, and the family a loved one. While I personally do not know this officer or his family – my heart aches nonetheless. These men know the risks and despite the statistics they make a conscious decision to put on their uniform, lace up their boots, clip their gun belt tightly, grab the key to their patrol car , and walk out the front door – they protect and serve with courage and honor. I pray that there will never be a day when my husband’s heart ceases to beat beneath his badge.

Any Questions?

Prayers for all. It is so hard sending our husbands out the door. To this day, I have to sleep with the scanner on. Being a police wife really is a hard job in its self. I don't know how you do it all Lindsey! HUGS
